Edit
The poem below was written by a student of Duncan's in Japan. Unfortunately the name of the student is unknown.
The poem was written in Japanese and has been kindly translated by Jack Hankins of the Jet programme, now a friend of the family.

When What I Took For Granted Disappeared

Time goes by, days come and go,
I lived without realising the importance of these things.
Without thinking.
"There is always tommorrow" or
a "next time" was just the way things were.

Hey, is there a tommorrow for me?
Hey, tell me.
Hey, I can't stand it, I don't want to tell you.
You must value every minute, every second...

Since that day, he is no longer to be seen.
Without realising how important that person was
I used to say let's meet "tommorrow" or "next time",
but now he has gone and I am pounded by the heavy rain.

Hey, will we forget about this tommorrow?
Hey, tell me.
Hey, it's hard but I have to tell you.
You must treasure this once in a lifetime chance.

I wish the heavy rain would stop.
I ache inside and I feel as if I'm going to cry.
Look, a day will pass today too
and I will meet many people.
Without saying "See you tommorrow" or "Next time",
I wanted you to be there forever.
I will go to tell you this soon.
"Precious time", "Precious days", "Precious people",
to you who are so precious I send this poem.
