I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with the Barnes last year when I stayed with them for a few months last year, and Duncan's visits home were always greatly anticipated - he would bring such energy into the house! His presence always filled a room, and the house seemed so quiet when he left again, and the fridge was often empty too! My favourite memory of Duncan is right before Christmas. Because I was away for Christmas day, we were having a substitute Christmas breakfast at Farrer Road. The sparkling wine was flowing and Duncan was struggling with this the day after! The picture I have of Duncan in my head is him looking great as always in a white t shirt smiling away at the end of the table, pleased to be sharing such a nice breakfast with his family and friends. Duncan, you were effortlessly friendly with everyone you met, and your energy and enthusiasm for life was inspirational. You will be sadly missed.
