During Autumn in Japan the leaves turn an amazing shade of red. It was nearing the end of Autumn and we were worried about missing the chance to go `Leaf viewing`. Ben and Duncan had organsised to go to Nara and I decided to invite myself along. Duncan called me about ten minutes before he and Ben were going to leave. I managed to drag myself off my futon, into the shower and out the door in record time. And now I'm so glad I did.
It was a fantastic day. We took loads of photos of leaves, fed the deer, spotted an excessively fat guy, posed with Ronald McDonald and tried on geeky glasses in the Hyaku-en (100 yen) Shop. These sort of moments seem of little or no consequence when you're there living them, but right now I'm so happy that I have the memories. I'm quite sure that's how we're all getting through this hard time. Take care all, love Kate
