Denise and I stayed with the Barnes family off and on during 1998 (we probably overstayed our welcome a few times, being poor backpackers!). Barry is my first cousin.
Our memories of Duncan are of an eight or nine year old boy, happy, friendly and obsessed with football. He would always say to me that Spurs were 'v' Manchester or whoever that evening, and I was always so amused by the 'v'. It must have been an English thing. On one occasion we took Duncan and Craig to the Museum of the Moving Image and he was an inquisitive and lively little chap, all sparkling eyes, but quite serious about the experience. We subsequently had children of our own, and our son Dylan (now 10) is very like Duncan was at that age. It's always been a source of wonder that the genes reach so far. Our love and prayers are with Barry, Norma and Craig at this most devastating time. We have very special memories of you all as a family, and we pray that your memories of the wonderful boy that Duncan was will sustain you all. |
